1954 Mercedes Benz 300 SL "Gullwing"

The ultimate 300SL!

You can call it a sensation when a ?one-off? Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupé is launched. On 17.12.1954 it rolled off the assembly line at Mercedes-Benz, in a bright and sporty-looking green, in keeping with the zeitgeist of the 1950s: in tundra green. Only one vehicle was given the privilege of wearing this special color from birth. The interior in elegant fabric/checker, with sporty Rudge hub lock rims,

a matching pannier set and the bumper horns so beloved in the USA.

Max Hofmann, the Mercedes-Benz importer for America, and his team had ordered the car from the factory. For a customer in the USA, it was reportedly the manager of the young and successful rock n roll musician Buddy Holly. After the sad plane crash and death of Buddy Holly and his friends in 1959, the car was rarely driven. The trace of the car was somewhat lost until the 1980s when the car found a new home in Germany. A well-known businessman and passionate Mercedes-Benz enthusiast in Mercedes-Benz classic circles had bought the car. A club friend had helped him to import the vehicle to Germany. He kept the car in his possession for a few years and sold it in 1990 to an entrepreneur in the very north of Germany. The new owner had clear ideas about how he would particularly like the 300 SL and enforced these ideas as part of an extensive revision of the car. The body was separated from the frame and revised piece by piece to a high standard. Blue is the color of the sea and blue is welcome on the North Sea and Baltic Sea. In short, the paint structure was created in elegant blue metallic. The interior was suitably finished in beige leather. The car remained in possession for more than 30 years and brought great joy to the family.

When the opportunity arose to purchase the vehicle, we did not hesitate for long. Such a one-of-a-kind piece, if you upgrade the color scheme back to the original, is very rare on the market. The condition is excellent, the 300 SL runs powerfully and pleasantly. The current Blue Metallic also has its charm. So it is left to the taste of the future owner, as the future color scheme impressively underlines the already breathtakingly beautiful line of the gullwing. If the desire is in the direction of originality, we can certainly make a suitable offer for retrofitting in high quality. Don't miss this special opportunity, we will be happy to advise you.
